Provider credentialing and payer enrollment in New York
New York physicians are licensed through the State Education Department's Office of the Professions rather than a standalone medical board. Medicaid enrollment runs through eMedNY, and most Medicaid patients are in managed care plans such as Fidelis Care, Healthfirst, MetroPlus or EmblemHealth, which contract separately. The Blue map changes by region: Empire downstate, Excellus across much of upstate and Highmark in the west. Choosing payers by borough or county saves time.

Medical billing and revenue cycle management in New York
Billing in New York is shaped by Medicaid managed care, Medicare, and a mix of Blue and national commercial plans, with heavy no-fault and workers' compensation activity for many specialties. Frequent denial causes include eligibility that changed between plans, missing referrals or authorizations, and enrollment dates that lag behind a provider's start. Practices in the city often carry many payers at once, so disciplined AR follow-up and clean payer data are what keep accounts from aging.

New York billing and credentialing questions
How do I enroll in New York Medicaid?
Providers apply through eMedNY, the state's Medicaid system, which is overseen by the Department of Health. Approval makes you eligible for fee-for-service claims, but most Medicaid members are in managed care plans, so you also apply to those plans individually.
Which New York payers should a new practice credential with first?
It depends on location. Downstate, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Medicare and plans like Healthfirst or Fidelis Care are common starts; upstate, Excellus or Highmark often come first. Specialty and the neighborhood's patient mix should guide the order.
Do Medicaid managed care plans in New York credential separately?
Yes. Being enrolled in eMedNY does not place you in the networks of Fidelis Care, Healthfirst, MetroPlus or EmblemHealth. Each plan reviews its own application and sets its own effective date, so applying to several at once is the normal approach.
Do we need to be near Brooklyn to work with Core MB?
No. Everything runs remotely: enrollment applications, payer follow-up, claims and reporting. Practices in New York get the same team, the same client portal and the same monthly reporting as a practice around the corner from our office.
